Facilities

The School of Social Science is based in a newly refurbished building in Hope Street, a short walk from the city centre and transport routes. The building is accessible to people with disabilties.

All teaching rooms have AV/IT equipment linked to the computing system, projectors, screens, audio, video and DVD. Staff and students can use video-streaming, podcasts and internet access as well as Powerpoint in their presentations. Hearing loops are provided for deaf and hard of hearing students, and staff can use microphones if requested.

A renovated atrium provides space for students to combine socialising with group study, or to take a break from studies. In this room, students can relax with a snack, access the wireless network, catch up with some reading, or just have a chat about the latest theories in Social Science!

The School has a newly equipped computer suite with 50 terminals and a smaller computer lab housing specialist GIS software. Software for partially sighted people is available on dedicated computers, and a number of desks are accessible to wheelchair users. Outside of timetabled teaching sessions, computer suites are open to all students between 7.30am and 5pm during term time.
