Research & Enterprise
Welcome to Research at the School of Social Science
Research at the School of Social Science improves our understanding of society in Britain and elsewhere, past and present. Innovative work being conducted in the fields of Criminology, Sociology, Politics, History and Geography fosters the pursuit of inter-disciplinary approaches. The school includes academics who are authorities in their field of study and researchers who are embarking upon pioneering research projects. Staff present the results of their research at conferences in Britain and beyond. They also publish on a range of topics, including corporate crime, Caesarean birth, the European Union, Nazi Germany and contemporary China.
The Centre for Liverpool and Merseyside Studies (CLAMS), which disseminates studies of the region through an annual conference and publications, is based at the School. Social Science is the centre for the research projects ‘Combining Work and Family Life’ and the ‘Tate & Lyle Love Lane Story’. An independent consultancy which carries out research, Base line, is also based in the School. More details can be found about these and past projects by following the links to the left. In addition, academic departments hold a variety of research seminars. Information about these events can be found in the Research events calendar and on each subject’s web page.
