All of the courses studied in the School of Art & Design aim:

  • to deliver a diverse range of challenging visual arts programmes which promote drawing and observation as fundamentals, and encourage innovative art and design skills.
  • to develop individual potential, within a framework of choice, while maintaining a coherent and focused learning experience.
  • to equip students with transferable skills and safe working practices, stimulating creative problem solving through appropriate media, while fostering self-reliance, self-motivation and a positive attitude towards life-long learning.
  • to facilitate contacts with industrial and cultural organisations, which will support curriculum development and good professional practice, contribute to the regeneration of Merseyside, and the cultural economy of the UK.
  • to maintain a learning environment in which research in all its forms is encouraged and used to inform the curriculum and enrich learning.

The school curriculum, culture and philosophy is directed towards personal development within a framework of professional practice supported by the most contemporary methodology and technologies.
