Criminal Justice

Criminal Justice at LJMU

The Criminal Justice programmes are managed by The School of Law which is located within the Faculty of Business and Law at Liverpool John Moores University. A total of over 300 students are currently reading for a degree in Criminal Justice. Our students are from a variety of different backgrounds, genders and age groups, all of which creates a stimulating and dynamic learning environment. The Criminal Justice programmes are ideal for any students who are interested in issues of  crime, criminality, criminology and criminal justice, and hope to eventually work professionally within the criminal justice system.

The Criminal Justice programmes provide a fusion of theoretical discussion and vocationally orientated learning. This is to ensure that students have a practical understanding of the criminal justice system, its agencies, processes and policies but can relate this to a wider socio-political context. This focus should provide the relevant knowledge and skills which will enable students to go on and be a success in a related field of employment in the criminal justice arena.

The Criminal Justice programmes have strong links with local and national criminal justice agencies, and the academic staff are actively involved in pioneering research into the practicalities of the criminal justice system. This hands on research by staff generates considerable knowledge which is used to ensure that our teaching is constantly informed and up-to-date within all our degree programmes.

Each student on the Criminal Justice programmes is guided through his or her degree by a personal tutor who is allocated from the Criminal Justice team. The team try and ensure that every student is given the necessary guidance and support both academically and personally whilst they are studying. We believe in an 'open door' policy whereby students can see their personal tutor at any time.
